December 2025 - As We See It! - A Year In Review
As 2025 comes to a close, the American Loggers Council (ALC) reflects on a year defined by strong engagement, renewed momentum in Washington, D.C., and meaningful policy progress for the logging and log trucking profession. With a new administration in office, the passage of key timber legislation and accompanying executive action signaled a renewed federal commitment to domestic timber supply, active forest management, and the essential role of professional loggers.
From coast to coast, ALC continues to represent professional loggers in all 50 states, ensuring that the voices of working loggers are heard as national policies affecting forests, markets, transportation, and workforce development are shaped....
September 2025 - As We See It! - We've Been Here Before
Let me explain. During 2002 and 2003 America suffered through over 11 million acres of wildfire resulting in the deaths of 22 firefighters and 25 civilians, with over 10,000 homes destroyed. Arizona, Colorado, and Oregon each recorded their largest wildfires in 100 years. California’s Cedar Fire in San Diego County burned over 273,000 acres and claimed 15 lives, making it the largest and deadliest wildfire in California up until that time.
Americans, particularly those west of the Mississippi, were appalled by this and demanded something better for their forests and.....
August 2025 - As We See It! - If a Tree Falls in the Forest…
If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? Likewise, while the American Loggers Council is in D.C. influencing policy, driving the national dialogue, and engaging the Administration and Congress – but we don’t share that story – did it really happen?
Washington is moving at a breakneck pace, and we are working with the most receptive Administration.....

Nearly 100 timber industry stakeholders representing 25 states flew into Washington DC armed with a “Road Map to Recovery” to share with Congressional leaders, high ranking agency officials, and White House representatives. The Fly In was a joint event cosponsored by the American Loggers Council and......
February 2025 - As We See It! - "The Fix is In!"
Those of us who are blessed to live and work in the woods know something is very wrong. Millions of acres of America’s forests burn in wildfires every year. Along with the forests, towns and homes burn, ecosystems are severely damaged, and watersheds are turned into
mudflows and landslides. While the toll on the environment is great, more sobering is the loss of human lives and the long-ranging health impacts. Wildfire smoke offsets years of anti-pollution efforts and is finally receiving the scientific study needed to evaluate the adverse effects on human health.....
January 2025 - As We See It! - "The Roaring 20’s"
Will history repeat itself? The 1920’s were known as the “Roaring 20’s” and represented a decade of economic growth and widespread prosperity after the economic downturn from the 1918 Pandemic and WWI post war recession. After the pandemic and WWI the U.S. economy experienced a recession that was characterized by increased government regulation, agricultural price collapse, national debt, high inflation due to increased government spending, increased interest rates, high unemployment and business failures...
